/ what people come with

WHO COMES
TO THE REFORMER

Almost nobody comes «just to work out». There is nearly always a reason — and it is rarely a sporting one.

  • Posture: shoulders forward, lower back collapsed, and it already shows in photos
  • A neck that goes «wooden» by the end of the day, a back that stiffens from desk work
  • Lower back pain that lets go and comes back
  • Too much stress — and the body holds it in the muscles even when you are resting
  • A doctor saw disc protrusions and said: not the gym, Pilates
  • You train, but you lack mobility and control
  • You have never done sport and do not know where to start

WHAT HER CLIENTS
WRITE

Four Google reviews that mention her by name. Texts unedited.

«We especially want to mention our instructor Anna. She watches the technique closely, takes our condition into account and picks the right load. She can always explain clearly how and why each exercise is done.»

Oleksandr IurchenkoAugust 2026 · Google

«I was at a group session with Anna. She explains the nuances really well. It turned out Pilates is not light exercise but a proper load for the whole body.»

Kristina LezhninaAugust 2026 · Google

«I felt my back and forgot about the pain in my lower back. My shoulders opened up. Thank you, Ania! It is all thanks to reformer Pilates.»

Volodymyr MelnichukJanuary 2026 · Google

«I had never done sport, but I finally dared and got the place right first time. A place that inspires and where you feel completely comfortable. Special thanks to Hanna!»

WHAT THE FIRST
HOUR LOOKS LIKE

Not a trial class «in the general flow», but a test and an introduction to the equipment one on one.

  • 0–10 min

    Conversation

What hurts, what you have tried, whether there is a diagnosis and limits from a doctor, what you want from your body.

  • 10–30 min

    The Polestar Pilates assessment form

Fifteen movements, each scored from 0 to 3: joint mobility and stability, alignment, control in motion, core and arm strength. The scores add up to one number out of 45.

  • 30–60 min

    Reformer

Getting to know the equipment: how the springs work, how to lie down, how to breathe, how to stop if something feels off.

  • after 2–3 months

    Retest

The same fifteen movements and a new number. Progress shows as a figure, not as a feeling of «seems better».

What stays with you

  • your test score and a clear list of what exactly is restricted
  • a format recommendation: private, group or a physical therapist first
  • a copy of the instructor’s working form — on request

WHAT PEOPLE DO BEFORE
THEY COME HERE

The most common story is the same: a person solves the problem in every way except movement.

  • Doctors, osteopaths, massage therapists — round and round, for years
  • Relief lasts a few days, then everything comes back
  • The body was not training all that time, so the foundation did not change

The result does not arrive instantly, but you will feel the first changes after the very first sessions. If you want a stable result, the old habits have to be replaced with new ones. The old ones, as we can see, do not work.

YEARS OF STRENGTH WORK —
AND A NECK THAT WOULD NOT LET GO

One case Hanna brings up first.

«I trained a man for several years. The format was strength work, and it went well — but his neck and shoulder hurt the whole time. We switched the sessions to Pilates and he kept the strength work on his own. The chronic ache went away.»

«He is in the military now. He still writes that he misses Pilates a lot and tells everyone in his unit that this is what to do.»

WHAT THE INSTRUCTOR
DOES NOT DO

So that you come with the right expectations.

I do not treat people. I give tools for working with the body and help you use them. Without illusions about fast results.

Hanna Ivakhno
  • Does not diagnose and does not lift limits set by a doctor
  • Does not work with acute pain or a fresh injury — a physical therapist first
  • Does not promise a result in three sessions
  • Does not sell packages up front
  • Does not compare you with the person on the next reformer
  • Does not take on the whole result: half the work is yours

This is probably not for you if you expect the result to depend on the instructor alone. Or if the plan is: ten sessions, it eased off, and then you can drop it. Pilates here is a long path that becomes part of life, not a course of ten procedures. If the first session shows that you need rehabilitation rather than a group, you will be told straight away and passed to colleagues inside the center.

WHEN IT BECOMES CLEAR
THAT IT WORKED

It is not one event but several signs in a row.

  • A movement that used to take great effort and excessive control is now done with confidence
  • The lightness in the body lasts not an hour after the session but becomes the background
  • The highest level — a person starts doing Pilates at home, because they feel better with it than without

The last thing Hanna learned was explaining movement through basic anatomy and simple images. Try it yourself: say each phrase separately and raise your arms.

«As you lift, your arms are light as a feather». And now: «As you lift, your arms are heavy as stones». Feel the difference.

WHAT SHE DOES
WITH HER OWN BODY

Sport was not part of her life from childhood — she brought it there herself.

I was never a professional athlete. I put in a lot of effort to get sport into my life. And now I love that in my thirties I can lift heavy, wake up without pain and run without gasping.

/ questions

WHAT PEOPLE ASK
BEFORE THE FIRST TIME

Briefly, what most often stops people at the door.

Does Pilates really give a result if I do not like hard training?+

It depends on what you count as a result. If it is joint and spine mobility, the ability to control and feel your body, to switch on the right muscles in time and not overstrain them — then yes, clearly.

If it is muscle mass, cardiovascular training or weight loss — there are tools that do that better. So at the start it matters to understand the goals and build a movement strategy.

Can I combine it with the gym?+

Not just can — for Hanna that is the base: Pilates combined with progressive strength training. Pilates gives control and mobility, strength work gives the load the body then handles in life.

I have never done sport. Will I feel embarrassed?+

The first session is one on one, without a group. After that, levels in a group vary and the load is set for each person separately.

I have disc protrusions. Is it allowed?+

People often come with exactly that referral. But if the pain is acute, it is worth doing a movement assessment with a physical therapist first — and only then getting on the reformer.

How is the reformer better than a mat?+

The springs can make a movement easier or harder. So on the reformer the exercise can be fitted to the person, rather than the person stretched to fit the exercise.
