Segments: a wave of compression from the bottom up

/ Method

What it is

What it is

Cuffs with several sections are put on your legs. The device inflates them in turn — from the foot upward, creating a wave of compression.

A detail worth knowing

This mechanically helps fluid move in the right direction. Lymph has no pump of its own — it needs movement or an outside push.

What it feels like

A wave of gentle compression rising from the bottom up. Most people describe it as pleasant.

No pain

The pressure is adjustable: if it squeezes too much, we lower it.

/ How long

How long
it takes

Pressotherapy is a procedure with a cumulative effect: one session gives relief, a course gives a result.

20–30 minutes

The session itself

You lie in the cuffs while the device inflates them in sequence from the bottom up. There is nothing for you to do.

Right after

The first sensation

Lightness in the legs is felt the same day — the fluid has moved.

Even daily

How often you can do it

There are no limits. After heavy loads or flights you can do it on consecutive days.

The course

How many in total

The effect builds from session to session. We name the number after the examination — it depends on the cause of the swelling.

/ When we prescribe it

When pressotherapy makes sense

  • swelling after a heavy load or a long day on your feet
  • a feeling of heaviness in the legs
  • recovery after a cast or brace comes off, when the leg swells
  • lymphedema — as prescribed by a doctor
  • a long flight or a desk job

This is a recovery procedure, not treatment for the cause of the swelling. We look for the cause separately. When it does not suit If one leg has swollen and it came on suddenly, this is not for the device. It is a reason to rule out thrombosis with a doctor.

/ Contraindications

When pressotherapy is not used

  • deep vein thrombosis or a suspicion of it — sudden one-sided swelling
  • decompensated heart or kidney failure
  • acute inflammation and skin infections in the cuff area
  • fresh fractures in the treatment area
  • cancer
  • pregnancy — only by agreement
  • The final decision is up to the physical therapist. At the assessment we ask about everything that could be a contraindication.

Tell us about it at the assessment. It changes the choice of method — we will pick another one that works in your case.

/ Questions and answers

Frequent questions

How many sessions are needed?+
Lightness is felt after the first one, but the effect is cumulative — which is why a course is what works. You can do it daily, there are no limits. How many you need depends on the cause of the swelling: after load it is a few sessions, with persistent heaviness in the legs it takes longer. We give a benchmark after the examination.
Is this for weight loss?+
No. Pressotherapy works with swelling and fluid, not with fat tissue. Your weight may change afterwards, but that is water.
Can I do it after training?+
Yes, this is one of the most common scenarios — taking the heaviness out of the legs after a heavy load.
Why is sudden swelling in one leg a stop sign?+
Because that can be how thrombosis shows up. Squeezing the leg in that case is dangerous. See a doctor first.
How long does the effect last?+
From a few hours to a few days. If the swelling keeps coming back, the cause needs to be found rather than the procedure repeated.
