Electrical muscle
stimulation
When the muscle is there, but after an injury or surgery it does not switch on.
Electrical pulses make the muscle contract and restore the brain-to-muscle connection that immobilization broke.
Leave your number — then pick what suits you: Telegram or a call. No commitment.
Pulses: forced contraction of a muscle that switched off
/ Method
What it is
What it is
Pulses are delivered through electrodes on the skin, and the muscle contracts by itself. This is not a replacement for training but a way to restore control of the muscle.
A detail worth knowing
After surgery or weeks in a cast the brain seems to “forget” the way to the muscle. Stimulation reminds it of that path — and after that you can contract it consciously.
What it feels like
Tingling, then a visible muscle contraction. We build the intensity up gradually and together with you.
No pain
Discomfort is possible, sharp pain should not be.

- we set the intensity together — if it is unpleasant, we lower it

/ How long
How long
it takes
Electrical stimulation only works through regularity: the muscle remembers the work through repetition, not from one session.
The session itself
Electrodes on the muscle, the device delivers pulses. You feel the contraction — from light to noticeable.
How often you can do it
There are no limits. The minimum that makes sense is twice a week.
How many in total
This is not a one-off procedure: the brain-to-muscle connection is restored through repetition. We name the number after the examination.
Stimulation does not replace training — it brings the muscle back into work so that training becomes possible at all.
/ When we prescribe it
When EMS makes sense
- after knee surgery, when the quadriceps does not switch on
- after a cast comes off, when the muscle has visibly wasted
- weak control of a muscle while doing an exercise
- pain that makes it impossible to load the area on your own for now
- the first weeks of rehabilitation, to avoid losing muscle mass
Stimulation is a bridge to exercise, not a substitute for it. As soon as the muscle responds, we move on to work. When it is not needed If you feel and contract the muscle well on your own, the device adds nothing.
/ When to hold off
When EMS is not used
- a pacemaker and other implanted electronic devices
- pregnancy
- epilepsy
- thrombosis or a suspicion of it
- damaged skin, rashes or wounds in the electrode area
- the heart area, the front of the neck (carotid sinuses)
- cancer
- The final decision is up to the physical therapist. At the assessment we ask about everything that could be a contraindication.
