High-intensity
laser therapy

Pain relief at a depth hands cannot reach.

Kyiv · downtown (Universytet metro)

A beam: targeted deep warming of the tissue

/ Method

What it is

What it is

A high-power laser. Unlike weak “clinic” devices, the energy reaches the deep layers instead of only heating the skin.

How it works

Light is absorbed by the tissue and speeds up cellular processes: the area gets more oxygen and blood flow. At the same time the pulse acts on nerve endings — and the pain subsides.

Eye protection

Goggles are mandatory — for you and for the therapist. This is not a formality: direct or reflected radiation is dangerous for the retina.

What it feels like

The therapist moves the handpiece over the area, and you feel pleasant warmth. There is no pain.

How a session
goes

We always put on protective goggles — you and the therapist. This is not a formality.

  • We always put on protective goggles — you and the therapist. This is not a formality.
  • The therapist moves the handpiece over the area, and you feel pleasant warmth. There is no pain.
  • we set the intensity together — if it is unpleasant, we lower it
  • right after the session you can work with your body

/ How long

How long
it takes

The most common question — and the most honest answer to it consists of three different timelines.

10–15 minutes

The session itself

That is how long work on one area takes. No preparation needed, and no lying down afterwards either.

Same day

First relief

The pain-relieving effect is often felt during the session or right after it: the pulse acts on nerve endings faster than the tissue itself can heal.

2–3 times a week

The rhythm of the course

The laser has a cumulative effect: every session adds to the previous one. In the acute phase you can do it daily, later less often.

5–10 sessions

The full course

This is already about healing, and healing goes at its own pace. We name the exact number after the examination and revise it as we go, based on how the tissue responds rather than on a package that was sold.

We give an approximate number of sessions after the examination. The laser does not require pauses in training — on the contrary, it is often done precisely so that training becomes possible.

/ When we prescribe it

When the laser makes sense

  • tendinopathies — Achilles, shoulder, elbow, knee
  • joint pain that gets in the way of movement
  • acute pain and the first period after an injury — sprains, partial tears
  • degenerative changes in a joint, arthrosis
  • chronic overload from running or work
  • areas that are painful to touch with hands

The laser combines well with manual work and with a session in the same visit. When it is not needed If the pain is not local but spread across the whole back, we look for the cause instead of heating an area.

/ Contraindications

When the laser is not used

  • cancer
  • pregnancy — the abdominal and lower back area
  • photosensitivity, including medications that cause it
  • the thyroid area
  • the eye area — categorically, which is why goggles are mandatory
  • fresh hematomas, bleeding
  • fever, acute infections
  • The final decision is up to the physical therapist. At the assessment we ask about everything that could be a contraindication.

Tell us about it at the assessment. It changes the choice of method — we will pick another one that works in your case.

/ Questions and answers

Frequent questions

Can I get a burn?+
With the right settings — no. The therapist does not hold the handpiece in one place but keeps it moving, and constantly asks how it feels.
Why the goggles?+
Direct or reflected laser radiation is dangerous for the retina. Goggles are mandatory for the whole session.
How many sessions?+
Usually 5–10 sessions, 2–3 times a week; in the acute phase you can do it daily. Pain relief is often felt after the first one, but that is not healing yet — the laser has a cumulative effect. This is a benchmark, not a rule: sometimes it is fewer, sometimes more, depending on the state of the tissue. We name the exact number after the examination.
Are there side effects?+
Most people tolerate the laser well. Sometimes there is a feeling of heat or tingling, a temporary change in sensation or slight redness of the skin — it passes on its own. Tell us about any sensation right away: we lower the intensity.
Who does the laser suit best?+
Tendinopathies — Achilles, shoulder, elbow, knee. Fresh sports injuries: a partial muscle or tendon tear, a bruise. Back pain. And also scars after surgery — the tissue there is dense and poorly supplied with blood.
Can it be combined with a session?+
Yes, we often do both in one visit: first we take the pain away, then we work with movement.
